Can You Eat During a Juice Cleanse?

A juice cleanse is a great way to reset your system and give your body a break from processed foods. But can you eat during a juice cleanse? The simple answer is yes, but there are some things you should keep in mind if you do decide to eat while cleansing.

At Groova Juice, our cleanses are designed for a juice-only routine (with lots of water). That said, sometimes, people just gotta eat. And that's OK (even if it's not ideal during a cleanse). If you fall into this category, we recommend choosing unprocessed, organic whole foods like fresh fruit, soup, broth, raw crudité, steamed green vegetables, and avocados.

Remember, the goal is to give your digestive system a break while still providing your body with the nutrients it needs. So, while solid food is OK in moderation, try to stick with simple whole foods that won't overburden your system.

What Does Eating Do?

Eating during a cleanse can interfere with the detoxification process and slow down weight loss, so if you can help it, we recommend sticking to juicing. But we understand that sometimes our bodies need more than just juice. So, if you do decide to eat while cleansing, make sure to choose whole, unprocessed foods that will nourish your body and won't offset all the hard work you're doing by juicing.

Avoid These Foods During Your Cleanse

You'll want to avoid any processed foods or foods that are high in sugar during your cleanse. This includes sweets like candy and cake as well as savory items like chips and pretzels. You should also avoid alcohol as it can dehydrate you and interfere with the cleansing process. Lastly, you'll want to stay away from dairy products as they can be hard to digest.

How Juice Cleanses Work

The purpose of a juice cleanse is to give your digestive system a break while flooding your body with nutrients. When you consume only juiced fruits and vegetables for a period, usually 3-5 days, your body can digest and absorb them much easier than it would solid foods. This allows your digestive system to "rest" while still getting the nutrients it needs. The result is increased energy levels, better skin, improved digestion, and reduced bloat.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, whether you eat during your juice cleanse is up to you. If you decide to eat, we recommend sticking with whole, unprocessed foods that are easy on the digestive system. And most importantly, listen to your body! Cleansing is a chance to reset your relationship with food and learn what works best for you. Trust us, your body will thank you for it.
